He's a real freak when he gets a guitar in his hands. I love the way he beautifully plays it like a violin but also his nearly atonal work. I first discovered him through my favorite band King Crimson, where he was pretty much the dictator. Later I fell in love with his frippertronics, a technique using a tapeloop so he can play with himself. Right now I'm kind of obsessed with his collaboration with another one of my favorite artists, namely David Sylvian, I consider their live-album Damage pretty much flawless. As well as Gone to Earth .
etc
I need more people to listen to Robbie Basho. He plays the acoustic guitar with engrossing strumming patterns that I can't get enough of. His voice is something I have never heard anything similar to. But there are other great sounding instruments in his music too. So far I've only listened to his album Visions of the Country . Even when I had just found his music there was something so nostalgic and calming about it.
My favorite songs of his on the album would be Orphan's Lament and Rocky Mountain Raga. The former almost makes me want to cry, his voice is so expressive, him being an orphan shines through.
